Call for applications: Gallery Assistant and Cashier (Part-Time)

Hatch Hollow LLC seeks a part-time employee to assist with our art gallery and cashiering in our art supply retail storefront. Hatch Hollow is a coworking space, art supply store, and art gallery located in Meadville, PA. Each week, the staff member will have scheduled cashier hours where they will be asked to be attentive and knowledgeable to retail customers, coworking members, and visitors. Hatch Hollow is open Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 6:00PM and Saturdays from 10:00AM to 4:00PM. Gallery Openings are often on one Friday per month from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. Shift schedules are often 4-6 hours/day 3-4 times per week. The staff member must be available to work (every other) Saturday and Friday evening events. The staff member will be responsible for overseeing art gallery communications and installation. This includes contacting artists for contracts and artwork information as well as planning artwork installations. A portion of gallery assistant responsibilities could be done remotely and/or after-hours. This position will be working closely with and reports to the store/gallery owner. 

 

Gallery Assistant and Cashier Responsibilities

  • Maintains communication with artists and gallery owner on upcoming exhibitions including artist contracts, artwork information, and shipping and receiving details

  • Assists in the planning and installation of exhibitions including layout, art handling, and working with carpentry tools and equipment

  • Assisting with gallery opening and other event preparation and tear-down

  • Conducts research and interviews with artists; possess excellent writing skills while creating exhibition brochures

  • Serves as a cashier and point of contact  for customers and coworking members

  • Inputs new retail merchandise in Square Register before putting on retail floor

  • Maintains basic knowledge of products and services we offer

  • Basic daily cleaning of retail space, sidewalk, coworking/gallery space, kitchenette, and restrooms

  • Maintaining opening and closing protocols, including the use of security systems (possession and knowledge of smartphone preferred)

 

This position entails 15-20 hours per week, split between cashiering and gallery assistant work. Pay rate is $13/hr paid on a bimonthly basis. Position is expected to start in July 2023.

 

Additional Skills/Qualifications:

  • Excellent research and writing skills

  • Excellent email communication skills

  • Effective verbal communication in a professional context with customers

  • Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs and able to stand for long periods

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail while installing exhibitions

  • Knowledge of Google Drive including Forms, Sheets, and Docs

  • Knowledge and experience with with point of sale programs and retail experience is a plus

  • Knowledge and understanding of a variety of art supplies/fine craft is beneficial, but not required
